Hello, I am Charle

Most of the people I work with are doing fine on the outside and still carrying something that has not moved in years.

I am a licensed clinical social worker, and this is a small practice for adults, by secure video. I will tell you plainly what I think is driving the symptoms and what I would suggest we work on.

If I do not think I am the right person for it, I will say that too.

Who this is for

You are functioning. That is not the same as being free.

From the outside it looks handled. You show up, you deliver, people rely on you.

Underneath that there are intrusive memories you did not invite, a body that stays braced for something, guilt that does not match the facts, and reactions that arrive faster than your judgment does.

You may already understand exactly why. Understanding it has simply not been enough to change it. That gap is what this practice is built to close.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

A different way of working with a memory.

How it works

You bring a distressing memory to mind while following a simple, repeated eye movement. The work focuses on changing how that memory is stored, reducing the charge it carries, and replacing the distressing imagery with something you choose.

The facts of what happened stay with you. What changes is how much of your present the memory is allowed to occupy.

What it is not

It is not hypnosis. You are awake, aware and in control for the whole session, and you can stop at any point.

It does not require you to recount every detail out loud, and it is not right for everyone. I will tell you directly if I do not think it is the right fit.

Composite illustrations

What change has looked like.

Three composites drawn from real clinical work, with all identifying details changed.

Composite one

What brought them in

An adult who had left their job and withdrawn from most of their life. Once active and social, now struggling to get out of bed. Emotionally numb, cut off from sadness and joy alike, and carrying guilt about who they had become.

What we did

Across three ART sessions we targeted distressing experiences and the beliefs feeding the numbness, guilt and withdrawal, reducing their emotional intensity without requiring a repeated retelling of every detail.

What shifted

They described feeling brighter and experiencing a fuller range of emotion. They began leaving the house, seeing friends again, making plans, and applying for work.

Composite two

What brought them in

A young adult living with depression and the effects of complex trauma, who had stepped away from their academic goals, was frequently tearful, and found family contact difficult because of ongoing conflict.

What we did

In a single ART session we targeted one distressing experience contributing to the emotional weight and the sense of being stuck.

What shifted

They reported feeling lighter and more hopeful, and felt ready to reconsider the goals they had set aside. Other challenges remained; the lower emotional intensity made the next steps feel possible.

Composite three

What brought them in

Someone whose work required regular driving had developed an intense fear of the highway, taking significantly longer routes and losing time and independence to the avoidance.

What we did

Using ART we targeted the distressing memories, the physical reactions and the feared outcomes attached to highway driving.

What shifted

They were able to drive on the highway again and chose routes based on convenience rather than avoidance.

These are composite illustrations. Identifying details have been changed and no individual client is described. The number of sessions describes these examples only; it is not typical, predicted or promised. Individual outcomes vary, and ART is not appropriate for everyone.
